LUNTIAN MULTI- PURPOSE COOPERATIVE

Luntian Multi-Purpose Cooperative is a 30yearold large cooperative based in the municipality of Tiaong, Province of Quezon. As one of the cooperatives recognized during the 2019 Villar Sipag Award for its livelihood generating activities that uplifts the lives of the members of the community, Luntian continues to thrive and deliver on its vision/mission to improve the lives of farmers in  the province of Quezon.

Organized in 1993 by a group of 30 hog growers who wanted to produce their own feeds to sustain their backyard operations and reduce reliance on expensive commercial feeds, the cooperative has grown in size to its current 2,256 members (and growing) composed mostly of farmers, housewives, and barangay-based citizens who raise backyard hogs, chicken, and other livestock. Despite the ravages brought by the African Swine Fever and coupled with the challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the cooperative is thriving and continues to be successful in implementing projects for the benefit of its members and the community.

Luntian is registered with the Cooperative Development Authority and its area of operations includes CALABARZON- R4A and MIMAROPA- R4B. Its current members come from       municipalities in the 2nd and 3rd districts of Quezon, Laguna, and Batangas. Concrete steps are now being taken by the cooperative to expand into other parts of Quezon through its on-going effort to establish a branch office in the Municipality of Lopez, a fast-growing town strategically located in Southern Quezon. This future branch will take the cooperative closer to farmers in the Bondoc Peninsula and the Bicol Region.

In December 2020, Luntian was accredited as a Regional Civil Society Organization (CSO) by the Department of Agriculture, signed by no other that Sec. William D. Dar himself. As an accredited CSO, Luntian is qualified to undertake projects and receive grants given out every year to deserving farmers organizations.

The CSO accreditation is a testament to the cooperative’s capability to mobilize and organize DA-funded projects that will benefit farmers in its area of operations. It is also an indicator of the cooperative’s track record as an implementor of programs that uplifted the livelihood of farmer members and farming communities.

Organizational Structure

Like all cooperatives recognized by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Luntian MP Cooperative (LMPC) is organized with its members – General Assembly (GA) vested with the supreme power to determine the path and fate of the coop. The GA elects its seven (7) Board of Directors (BOD) who create policies and Action Plans for the management to execute. The management headed by the General Manager and supported by a team of Department Heads map out programs and projects to implement the policies handed down by the BOD. Management is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cooperative ensuring that the cooperative operates according the annual plan and budget.
